Asia Deli is the only official distributor of Kimmidoll in Poland – and since many of our customers ask what these dolls actually are and where they came from, this topic deserves a separate post, even if it goes beyond the culinary theme we covered in How to make sushi at home.
Where did Kimmidoll come from?
The Kimmidoll Collection is a brand created in Australia, inspired by the Japanese tradition of kokeshi dolls – wooden figures hand-carved since the 19th century in the Tōhoku region. Traditional kokeshi had a simple, cylindrical form, without arms or legs, with a painted face and a characteristic pattern on the doll's "body." Kimmidoll takes this form and reinterprets it in a modern, colorful style, while retaining the spiritual essence of the original.
Each doll has a meaning
What distinguishes Kimmidoll from a regular decorative figurine is its symbolic layer. Each model in the collection bears a Japanese name and represents a specific value or wish – love, happiness, strength, wisdom, health. The pattern on the doll (flowers, waves, cranes) corresponds to this meaning. This makes the choice of a specific model part of the gift – it's not just an object, but a message.
